Nicky Spence, a young Scottish tenor who was named "Young Singer of the Year" at the 2015 International Opera Awards and continues to make his mark on the international opera scene, is back with his new album of Janacek songs, "Four Hymns," featuring star viola player Timothy Ridout. Nicky Spence, a young Scottish tenor who has been active on the international opera scene and was named "Young Singer of the Year" at the 2015 International Opera Awards, will present a disc on the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams' birth! The album includes "At Wenlock Edge," a series of songs for tenor, piano and string quartet in the style of Ravel, "The House of Life," an early work based on a collection of poems by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and a work based on "folk songs," the essence of Vaughan Williams's art, The collection is full of imaginative and varied compositions.While "The House of Life" is a work that allows one to encounter the legacy of Ravel's pre-Ravel studies with Stanford and Bruch, "Four Hymns," "At Wenlock Edge," and "Fifteen Folk Songs from the East of England" were written immediately after Ravel's intervention, and each of these works offers a change of style and a chance to enjoy the music of the time.
