Born in Montreal, Canada, baritone Gerald Finley studied at King's College, Cambridge University, and the Royal College of Music in London. Acclaimed for his performances of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" and "The Marriage of Figaro," Finley is a Grammy Award-winning singer whose dramatic voice has been acclaimed around the world. He and piano accompanist Julius Drake are also a wonderful duo, winning three Gramophone Awards for Vocal Performance: Barber in 2008, Schumann in 2009, and Britten in 2011. With this renowned duo, they have previously released "Winterreise" (CDA68034) and "Swan Song" (CDA68288) on Hyiperion, and with this album they will have recorded all three of Schubert's major song cycles.The internationally acclaimed interpretation of Schubert is no different in "The Watermill Girl," as both "Swan Song" and "Winter's Journey" were nominated for the Gramophone Prize for Voice, and "Winter's Journey" was awarded Canada's Gounod Prize.
