Description:
New Russian pianist Andrei Gugnin! The second Hyperion recording by Andrei Gugnin, an up-and-coming pianist born in Russia in 1987! Gugnin won the second prize at the Beethoven International Competition in Vienna in 2013, the first prize at the Gina Bachauer International Competition in 2014, the first prize at the Sydney International Competition in 2016, and performed with Gergiev & the Mariinsky Theatre. He also won a special prize at the 2019 Tchaikovsky International Competition, and successfully performed in Japan twice, in May and September. The Godowsky Hommage program, which was performed during the September 2019 concert in Japan, is a collection of brilliant and technical piano works dedicated to the legendary master Leopold Godowsky, the 19th century "god of pianism," a genius of extreme virtuosity, whose 150th anniversary will be celebrated in 2020. This is a dense program of brilliant and technical piano works dedicated to the legendary master Leopold Godowsky, the "god of pianism" of the 19th century. Please look out for the far-reaching talent of Andrei Gugnin, whose previous Shostakovich album (PCDA 68267) was highly acclaimed for its hard-edged pianism and was selected as a Record Arts Special Mention and BBC Music Magazine's "Recording of the Month"!
