The Orlando Consort, a male vocal quartet formed in 1988 at the National Centre for Ancient Music in England, makes its Hyperion debut with this recording of a collection of poems by Guillaume de Machaut (c.1300-1377), a 14th century poet and representative of "Ars Nova" French music, entitled "The True The Story" is a collection of poems about Machaut's love for Peronne d'Armantienne, a 19-year-old woman who took an interest in his poetry and music. The harmonies of the Orlando Consort, with Donald Greig, a member of the Tallis Scholars, supporting the lower voices, sing of Machaut's love in his old age and of the 14th century Ars Nova.
