Manfred Honeck / Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Description:

First recording of Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 with Manfred Honeck Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in over 16 years! The coupling is a work by Schulhoff, a victim of the Holocaust, recorded for many years by REFERENCE RECORDINGS, a highly acclaimed high sound quality label, and sound mirror, a company that has recorded not only for REFERENCE RECORDINGS but for PENTATONE, BIS, and many other well-known recording labels for more than 40 years, has joined forces with the highly acclaimed Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to produce a new recording. sound mirror, a company that has been in charge of recording for over 40 years, has teamed up to produce the highly popular "Pittsburgh Live! series. The 14th installment of the series features Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and works by Czech composer and Holocaust victim Erwin Schulhoff, performed by Manfred Honeck, who has served as principal conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 2008. Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 is a memorable work that he performed with the orchestra for the first time in 2006, before assuming the position. Although it is a masterpiece with many famous recordings, Honeck says that since their first collaboration, he has reviewed the score many times and studied it over and over again for this performance. The performance provides a clear contrast from the deep emotional expression to the rough brass, and the music is uplifting and the orchestra and conductor are wonderfully united. The coupling, Schulhoff's Five Pieces for String Quartet, is an orchestral arrangement by Honeck and Tomasz Ill. Schulhoff was influenced by jazz in many of his works, and this piece, composed in 1924, is his most frequently performed work. Schulhoff spent 48 years in a concentration camp following the rise of the Nazis. King International
