Description:
The Utah Symphony Orchestra presents a new Mahler Cycle! The Utah Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1940, will celebrate its 75th anniversary in the 2015/16 season with a two-year commitment to the Mahler Cycle in concert and on recording. The Utah Symphony is best known for its recording of the monumental Mahler Symphony Cycle, completed with Maurice Abravanel (1903-1993). Abravanel was a Jewish-Swiss conductor of Greek origin who escaped the Nazis and eventually defected to the United States. He was the principal conductor of the Utah Symphony Orchestra for more than 30 years, where he trained the orchestra's young musicians and recorded the complete symphonic works of Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Sibelius, and Mahler, making the orchestra from a mere regional orchestra to one of the top orchestras in the United States. The orchestra has recorded the complete symphonies of Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Sibelius, and Mahler.Thierry Fischer has been the Music Director of the Utah Symphony Orchestra since 2009. In Japan, he has been the Permanent Conductor of the renowned Philharmonic Orchestra since 2008. Thierry Fischer began his career as principal flutist at the Hamburg State Opera and Zurich Opera, and has been active as a conductor since his 30s. With an exquisite sense of balance, he makes Mahler's distinctive harmonies sound firm and create a clear flow that is polished to the last detail. The recording is handled by the recording team of the American high-quality sound label REFERNCE RECORDINGS. The Utah Symphony Orchestra's performance and recording techniques have been upgraded to a new level, and a new Mahler cycle for a new era is now available. King International
