The Freiburg Baroque Orchestra has launched a new creative partnership with Deutsche Grammophon, as the prestigious ancient instrument orchestra invites you to the historic city that greatly influenced the young Mozart. And now they are releasing an album of works associated with the famous Mannheim court orchestra. It is an attempt to bring the music that Mozart might have heard in Mannheim closer to home and to let today's listeners experience this period for themselves. It is impossible to overstate how valuable Mozart's studies in Mannheim were for his later life. After that period, Mozart reached a new level of musical quality, individuality, and originality. The album features lesser-known works by Christian Cannabich, Ignaz Holzbauer, Georg Josef Vogler, and others, as well as works by Mozart, who was still young and developing when he visited Mannheim. Among them are Cannabich's Symphony No. 55 in C major, which expresses the subtle changes in sound, dramatic effects and contrasts that characterize Mannheim's music, and Carl Josef Toesky's Sextet for Flute, Oboe, Violin, Viola, Bassoon and Cello, which, after hearing it played, " The overture to Holzbauer's opera Günther von Schwarzburg, which he wrote in a letter to his father Leopold in amazement that "there was so much imagination in this music," is a must-hear The Freiburg Baroque Orchestra was founded in 1985 by students from the Freiburg University of Music in Germany.
