This is the "Europe" edition of the box set trilogy of Hungarian conductor and pianist Sir Georg Solti, which follows the "Chicago" and "London" editions. The 44 CD + 2 DVD box set traces Schörty's European career through his extensive recordings for Decca, from his very early recordings as a pianist in 1947 to his recordings with Hungarian musicians in his native Hungary, three months before his death. These three boxed sets will cover all of Scholte's Decca recordings of orchestral music. Limited edition. The CD and DVD include the 1995 anniversary concert with the World Orchestra for Peace, the orchestra Scholty formed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Mozart's Requiem is a live recording of a mass held in Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the composer's death. Shorty's last live recording was Mahler's Symphony No. 5 with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra.Produced by John Transky, the audio documentary (CD 44) features Angela Gheorghiu, Kiri te Kanawa, Clemens Hersberg (former violinist and director of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra), Michael Haas (former Decca producer), and Charles Kay (director of the World Orchestra for Peace).
