Description:
Celebrating the 140th anniversary of his birth. The Stereo Years" is a collection of monaural recordings by the famous Swiss conductor Ernest Anselme (1883-1969), who will celebrate the 140th anniversary of his birth in November 2023. The Mono Years" is a 26-CD boxed set that follows "The Stereo Years," a collection of monaural recordings from his vast recording legacy. Limited edition. Anselme was a special figure in the world of music, not only as a conductor, but also as a philosopher, mathematician, and composer. He was friends with composers such as Debussy, Ravel, Roussel, and Stravinsky. In addition to those composers, this set contains all the recordings made by Honegger, Frank Martin, Bartók, Prokofiev, and others for Decca between 1929 and 1955. The first recording is Handel's Concerto Op.6, made in 1929, when the Decca label was founded, with the "Decca String Orchestra," a group of musicians specially formed in London. Anselme returned in 1946 to the studios of the Decca label, which had introduced the "ffrr" technique and established its credibility as an influential force in classical recording, and became one of the most prolific conductors to record there. His recordings continued into the stereo era, with his last recording for Decca in 1968 (Stravinsky's "The Firebird"). The music of Stravinsky, a particularly close friend and colleague, was featured extensively in this set, including not only "The Firebird" but also "Symphony of Psalms," "The Rite of Spring," and "King Oedipus," all of which were enthusiastically received by the media of the day. There are also two recordings (1949 and 1953) of Ravel's "Piano Concerto for the Left Hand" by a composer he knew personally and worked with. Also, the historic 1952 recording of "Daphnis et Chloe" is available on CD for the first time.Ryadov's orchestral arrangement of Mussorgsky's "Gopak" from "The Regular City of Sorotinsk" has been recorded in mono and stereo. The stereo recording was made for a stereo LP on "London" (Decca, USA), but that album was never released and only a test pressing remains. This is the first world release. New digital remastering. Original jacket. I was lucky to live in a very active and productive time" (Ernesto Anselme) *Please note that some of the recordings may have been omitted from some products that claim to be the complete collection of recordings.
