Description:

Celebrating 525 Years. Commemorative 21-CD box set tracing the history of the world's most famous boys' choir The Vienna Boys' Choir will celebrate its 525th anniversary in 2023. To commemorate the occasion, a 21-CD box set tracing the history of the choir, from religious to popular music, will be released. This limited edition set spans more than 100 years of recording, from 1907 to 2023, with nearly 20 hours of recorded music. Each CD focuses on a particular period, a single composer or a group of composers, and includes everything from Renaissance motets to contemporary music. Some recordings are previously unreleased and some are on CD for the first time. The Vienna Boys Choir is known for its refined artistry, powerful sound, and effervescent charm, and is perhaps the most famous boys' choir in the world. 90 to 100 active chorus members are divided into four touring groups: the Vienna Boys Choir, the Vienna Boys Choir, the Vienna Boys Choir, and the Vienna Boys Choir. Over the past century, they have toured more than 1,000 times in over 100 different countries, performing an astounding 29,000 concerts. They perform 300 concerts a year and their live audience has reached 500,000 people worldwide.CDs 1 through 14 contain religious music from the 15th to the 21st centuries in chronological order. Much of it is still in the repertoire of the choirs of the royal chapels. The music of Joseph Haydn and his brother Michael, both of whom sang in the imperial choir as boys, is on three CDs, Mozart's religious music on four CDs, and Schubert's religious works on three CDs. Schubert was a member of the court boys' choir from 1809 to 1813; CD 10 collects works by Beethoven and his contemporaries; CD 15 and CD 16 are Mozart and Schubert, sometimes heard in Vienna Boys' Choir concerts, CD17 features popular songs from around the world, CD18 features traditional Austrian and German folk songs, CD19 features music by the Waltz King Johann Strauss II and his brother Joseph, and CD20 features Christmas music selected by the Vienna Boys Choir. CD20 is Christmas music selected by the Vienna Boys Choir. And CD 21 is a collection of historical recordings included as a bonus CD, the earliest dating back to 1907. Other previously unreleased tracks produced between 2008 and 2023 are also included. (1/2) Universal Music/IMS
