Many of the albums have not been released for a long time. This 13-CD box set is arranged chronologically by composer. Wolfgang Holzmaier has long been recognized as one of today's most accomplished and intelligent song singers. He is a baritone of great German song, bringing sophistication and deftness to his singing. His smooth, sublime voice, from the highs of his wonderful tenor to his soulful lower register, continues to charm listeners and critics alike. 1995's recording of Hans Eisler's "The Hollywood Songbook" is also included. The box begins with Haydn's solo songs, Mozart's songs, and Beethoven's songbook "To a Faraway Lover," which is an important song representing the Romantic songbook tradition.Firmly established as a song pianist, Imogen Cooper partners Holzmaier primarily on songs by Schubert and Schumann. They have also collaborated on a collection of Eichendorff songs by Schumann, Hugo Wolff, and Aribert Reimann, and a collection of songs by Schumann and Clara Schumann.
