A collection of late recordings by the great Spanish cellist. This is a collection of late chamber music recordings by the great cellist Pablo Casals from Catalonia, Spain, with longtime friends and colleagues. He was accompanied by his Polish chamber music partner from the 1930s, Mieczyslaw Horszowski. Three trios, including "The Ghost" and "The Grand Duke," were performed by Hungarian violinist Sándor Weg from the younger generation; three years later at the Casals Festival in Prado, he performed Sonata No. 1 with Wilhelm Kemp and another, "The Ghost," with Weg and Swiss pianist Carl Engel. The other, "Ghost," was performed with Weg and Swiss pianist Carl Engel. Schubert's string quintet features Schandl Weg leading Schandl Zerdy, Georges Janzel, and Paul Szabo, with Casals as second cello. is also being released on CD for the first time.In Fauré's Elegy, Casals conducts the Orchestre de la Conseil Lamoureux, and the 25-minute rehearsal is a very interesting record of Casals at work. The Haydn and Boccherini concertos are performed with his pupil Maurice Gendron, and this is the first recording of the Boccherini concerto performed in its original score. Universal Music/IMS
