Demenga's performance of Bach's "Heart of Music" Swiss cellist Tomás Demenga returns to Bach's Suite for Unaccompanied Cello. For me, Bach is the greatest living genius of all time. His music is pure and majestic. There is something divine about it, and every musician spends their whole life trying to find new ways to play it. Demenga previously recorded the Cello Suites alongside contemporary works for ECM between 1986 and 2002, an album that was a landmark in the early years of the "New Series. The two-disc album, however, focuses entirely on Bach and his six suites. Years of playing the suites and studying every aspect of them, from the handwritten originals to the different tempos, ornaments, fingerings, and bowing techniques, have given Demenga the heart of the music--which Bach himself envisioned as his only end point. - has been brought to life. This new performance was recorded at the Hans Huber Saal in Basel (an LP album from the suite, Preludes and Sarabands, will be released simultaneously with this 2-CD set). Universal Music/IMS
