Description:
This is a collection of works by two Danish composers performed by Norwegian accordionist Frode Hartli, who seeks the extremes of musical expression with the accordion. The album, with its well-balanced arrangement of accordion solo pieces and pieces accompanied by chamber orchestra and string quartet, is filled with a serenity and tenderness that seems to melt into the air. Ebrahmsen's "air" is a complex affair with simple phrases piled on top of each other. Nocturne" with the Arditti Quartet is truly music for the night. Seansen's "It is Pain Flowing Down Slowly on a White Wall" explores the limits of control over nuance and dynamics on the accordion, and is a piece that could only be performed by the Hartley women. Siglit's Lullaby is another piece that stimulates the listener's senses, "as if penetrating the waters of time. Universal Music/IMS
