Schiff's Schubert on Forte Piano! Piano treasure András Schiff performs Schubert's major works on his own pianoforte. 30 years after recording Schubert's sonatas and complete improvisations for DECCA in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Schiff has switched from Bösendorfer to fortepiano for this concert. This time, Schiff switched from the Bösendorfer to the fortepiano, and once again tackled Schubert's works. Schiff had several important encounters with the fortepiano, including a recording in the late 1970s on Beethoven's Broadwood piano, which was housed in the National Museum in Budapest. A few years later, he had the opportunity to play and record Mozart's Walter fortepiano in Salzburg. He also used a Graf fortepiano to play Schubert's sonatas.Schiff later came into possession of a Franz Broadman fortepiano made in Vienna in 1982, and he used the instrument for this recording because Schubert's keyboard works require the soft, mellow tone of this Viennese instrument.
