Chicago Symphony Orchestra/Claudio Abbado

Description:

The supreme art created by the close partnership between conductor and orchestraSince its founding in 1898, Deutsche Grammophon (DG) has always boasted the highest artistic standards and has been home to great conductors and prestigious orchestras. Deutsche Grammophon has created these four sets to pass on to the next generation the art that has been achieved by the conductors and orchestras with whom Deutsche Grammophon has formed the finest bonds. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is considered one of the finest orchestras not only in the United States but in the world. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra was the exclusive property of RCA from the early LP period until the Martinon era, and then moved to Decca in 1969 when Scholtey was appointed music director, and the lucid recordings by Decca became a big hit. Deutsche Grammophon also started recording with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1972, following the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, with the aim of expanding its share in the American market. The DG recordings are characterized by a wider perspective of the soundstage and a balance between the overall mass resonance and the detailed solos with perfect timing.Claudio Abbado was the principal guest conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1982 to 1985. Abbado was around 50 years old when he interpreted and conducted with great physical and mental vigor, and his performance, especially his delicate expression in the tension-filled weak register and his drawing out of the overwhelming power of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's brass section, can be said to be unique to this period of Abbado's career. The individual CDs are enclosed in the original design paper jackets. Universal Music/IMS
