Description:
First recording on a grand piano with a new method invented by Barenboim! When Barenboim participated in the 2011 Ristor project for the grand piano used by Franz Liszt, he studied the structure of the grand piano in detail and came up with the idea that the sound quality of a grand piano could be dramatically improved by changing the way the strings are stretched. Based on this idea, he and piano craftsman Chris Mayne proceeded with the production of the piano. In a conventional grand piano, the strings in the lower and middle registers are crossed from side to side, causing interference between the upper and lower strings, which results in a muddy sound. Therefore, by having all strings stretched in parallel (double bridge) to avoid crossing, we have succeeded in drastically improving the tone quality compared to conventional pianos. The modern grand piano, established by C. F. Theodore Steinway in the late 19th century, has a cross-string construction because it was difficult to cast long plates for parallel stringing with the technology of the time. Despite the subsequent development of technology, no piano maker has ever attempted to change the structure of the piano from its original form. The strings of the earlier fortepianos (historical pianos) were strung in parallel, but Barenboim developed a grand piano that has both the purity and definition of sound and the power of a modern piano, with a slightly narrower keyboard to suit his own hands. Barenboim's own performances of these works have been selected to showcase the instrument's appeal. Universal Music/IMS
