Description:

The inner voices are clearly audible, there are no monotonous or tasteless phrases, and the performance is dashing Beethoven with a great sense of drive. The final movement of the Seventh, which is played at a blazing speed (6'9"), is a masterpiece! A great attention-getter! Young Dudamel makes his Deutsche Grammophon debut! Gustavo Dudamel, a native of Venezuela, signed an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon in September 2005. Born in 1981, Dudamel began playing the violin at the age of four and later joined the Simon Bolivar National Youth Orchestra, where he became music director in 1999. In 1999, he became music director of the orchestra, where he received instruction from Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, and others."Dudamel and his young orchestra's devotion to music has impressed me from the first moment ."---Claudio Abbado"...the most astonishingly gifted conductor I've Claudio Abbado"...the most astonishingly gifted conductor I' ve come across."---Sir Simon RattleWinner of the first Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition in 2004. He has already been named the next principal conductor of the Goteborg Symphony Orchestra in Sweden, a position he will hold for the next two years. He conducted the Gothenburg SO for the first time at the 2005 BBC Proms as a substitute for N. Järvi. His performance was very well received, and he was a great choice. When I first conducted the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra at the Proms, I was struck by the high level of skill and openness of the musicians. Instantly, it was as if I had fallen in love with the orchestra." Dudamel's comments [press release] As of 2006, the first concert of this young conductor, who has just turned 25 years old, will be two Beethoven symphonies, which are truly classical royalty! Gramophone is promoting this performance conducted by the Simon Bolivar National Youth Orchestra with great confidence. The orchestra seems to be receiving as much push as Thielemann for its debut in Beethoven's Fifth and Seventh. *A concert tour to Los Angeles and Chicago is also scheduled for 2007!
