The most famous opera composer of the early 18th century was neither Handel nor Vivaldi, but Leonardo Vinci (1690-1730). He studied music in Naples and became famous in 1719 for his opera buffa, and in 1722 he began writing more prestigious operas and cellas, which were an instant success. Vinci's fame spread throughout Europe, and even Handel, far away in London, could not resist his influence. However, he is said to have died of poisoning at a young age, and his sudden death quickly led to the public's forgetting his music. It is only in this century that Vinci's music can finally be heard on stage and in recordings, and the opera "Zismondo, King of Poland," premiered at the Teatro delle Dame in Rome in 1727, is one such masterpiece that has been unjustly forgotten, and we hope that many people will have the opportunity to hear it through CD. This CD is the result of our desire to make it available to as many people as possible. Czencic, a star singer and artistic director of Parnassus Arts, sings the title role, and other selected members of the ensemble give their best performances on this gorgeous disc.Come and experience the wonder of Vinci's music.
