Kodaly's "Budavari Te Deum" for solo voice, mixed chorus and orchestra was performed in Budapest Cathedral on the 250th anniversary of the liberation of Buda Castle from the Turks (1686). Bartók's Cantata Profana is based on an ancient myth. It tells the story of nine brothers who are magically transformed into deer, and is interpreted as a protest against the Horthy dictatorship in Hungary. Usually sung in Hungarian, this recording is a revival of the original Romanian version by choral conductor Cornel Groza. It is sung in Hungarian, but in this recording, chorus conductor Cornel Groza has revived the original version in Romanian. King International
