Sublime Frequencies, a prestigious label, presents an extremely rare recording of Rudra Vina by a woman, which is considered to be the Vina of Shiva in Hinduism. It is characterized by the huge gourds on the top and bottom of the resonant part. Its origin can be traced back more than 2,000 years, with sculptures of women playing the Rudra Veena found in Hindu temples and in miniature paintings from the 15th to 17th centuries. In recent years, however, there has been a prejudice against women playing musical instruments, and women playing rudra veena have been very rare. Perhaps the most famous female rudra veena artist, Jyoti Hegde, is the one who broke down this barrier. Thanks to her courage, young musicians like Madhvanti Pal, the star of this film, were able to learn. However, while Jyoti Hegde plays the so-called traditional rudra veena, Madhvanti plays a modified dagar style instrument. There are very few recordings of rudra veena.There are various reasons for this, but the main one is that it is difficult to capture the sound of this special instrument. For this project, instead of hiring an engineer, they went to Madhvanti's apartment and recorded there. She mixed and mastered each raga using her own methods and equipment.
