East Of The River

Description:

Up-and-coming ensemble! East of the River makes its Avie debut! Avie debut of East of the River, an up-and-coming ensemble based in New York City. East of the River is a recorder consort founded by internationally acclaimed recorder virtuosos Nina Stern and Daphna Mol (who also performs regularly with Apollo's Fire) that performs timeless works from the classical repertoire of medieval Europe and the Middle Eastern tradition. The group explores virtuoso and haunting melodies of the Middle Eastern tradition, as well as timeless pieces from the classical repertoire of medieval Europe. Members of the group include an international roster of musicians, including Armenian-American oud player Ara Dinkjian, Silk Road percussionist Shane Shanahan, Israeli bassist Tal Mashiach, and Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Zafel Tawil. and Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Zafel Tawil.Inspired by the love and commemoration of two shared cultural backgrounds - Nina's Venetian Jewish ancestors and Daphna's Ladino (Spanish Jewish) ancestors - this album is a fascinating collection of Sephardic folk and traditional music, including stories, dances, prayers and anthems! The program will be performed in the following venues Tokyo M-Plus
