Description:
Newly mastered from the original analog master tapes owned by the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, this is the first authorized release! The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and Celibidacke's remarkable legacy is now available for the second time on authorized vinyl on the Munich Philharmonic label. He became Chief Conductor in June 1979 and held this position for 17 years. He was an integral part of building the orchestra that has made the Munich Philharmonic the world-famous orchestra it is today. Today, the Munich Philharmonic is an internationally acclaimed orchestra. The Munich Philharmonic label has released recent live recordings with current music director Walery Gergiev on CD; in March 2017, a live recording with Christian Thielemann is now available digitally. This legendary performance by Celibidacke was also the legendary concert that shaped the essence of him and the orchestra, and is critically acclaimed to this day. The "Songs for a Lost Child" on this album is a rare soundtrack of Celibidacke, who rarely performed Mahler's works. I have never conducted Mahler, and I never will.Mahler is one of the most tragic phenomena in the history of music. Mozart is the dictator! (from "Mozart's Musical Words"). It is said that Celibidacke conducted only "Songs of the Earth" (1992) and "Songs for a Lost Child" (1983) on two occasions. Celibidacke always criticized Mahler's symphonies, which "have a beginning but no end," and never performed them during his lifetime, but this "Ode to a Lost Child" is said to be the only exception, because the lyrics were meaningful. Along with Fassbender's wonderful singing, this performance reveals a surprising richness of color in the style of Celibidacke just before he moved into the style of his last years. Death and Transfiguration" is one of the many pieces that Celibidacke, who excelled at dramatics, performed in his youth. It is a precise and stimulating performance on an overwhelming scale. For this release, the original analog master tapes in the collection of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra have been newly mastered. The new mastering was recently supervised by ECM and mastered by Christoph Stickel, an engineer who has worked on various Keith Jarrett albums, bringing back the tension of the live performance.
