The sound of a woodwind ensemble full of dynamism! Recordings of Jean Francais' works for wind instruments by the wind members of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra! Jean Francais (1912-1997) was a prolific composer who incorporated neoclassical styles and modern sensibilities. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and developed his own style, influenced by Ravel and Stravinsky. Francais was passionate about composing for wind instruments, especially woodwind ensembles, and the rich expressiveness of Mozart's wind octet, as well as its sparkle and dynamism, are Francais' hallmarks. Of interest on this album are Francais' arrangements. The works by Poulenc, Chabrier, Chopin, and Schubert are rendered in Francais's style, which is truly rich in sound, while respecting the original and bringing out the individuality of each composer. The wind members of the Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne under the direction of Charvin enjoy the richness of the Francais sound. The recording was made by Jean-Claude Gabrelle, a well-known recording engineer for the Claves label. Gabrelle is a master recording engineer who is highly acclaimed for his recordings of Bach's organ works, including Megumi Koito's Bach Organ Works. King International
