Armed Men (Mass for Peace)! World premiere recording of the ensemble version! The Hertfordshire Choral Society, one of the finest symphonic choruses in the UK and renowned for its high quality and passionate singing, and the Hertfordshire Choral Society's music director, David Temple, who has sung with the London Philharmonic Chorus under such composers as Boult, Stokowski, Shorty and Haitink. The third Signum work by David Temple, choral conductor and director of the Hertfordshire Choral Society, is an ensemble version of English composer Karl Jenkins' "The Armed Man" (Mass for Peace). Commissioned by the Imperial Ordnance Museum in the U.K., "Armed Man" is a work dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo conflict, and is a powerful plea for peace. The ensemble version on this album was conceived by Jenkins as an alternative to the full symphony when it was not possible to perform the entire symphony, and retains the charm of the original work, with its driving rhythms, thunderous climaxes, terrifying moments, and tender, evocative melodies. The original charm of the piece has been retained.Also of note is the participation of Kathryn Rudge, one of Britain's most celebrated mezzo-sopranos, and Jamal Aliyev, a young master cellist from Azerbaijan who was featured as soloist in the 2017 BBC Proms "John Williams 85th Anniversary Program" and winner of numerous international competitions!
