French saxophonist Mathieu Bordunave's second album, following his ECM leader debut "La traversee," is also available on LP. Continuing from the previous work, this quartet work features the trio of German pianist Florian Weber and French bassist Patrice Moret, extended by the unique sensibility of drummer James Madren. Drummer Madren's incessant drumming adds a deft counterpoint to the group, developing a unique sound. In addition to the soulful and angular rendition of John Coltrane's "Compassion," the quartet bridges the gap between chamber jazz dynamics and post-swing design with eight original compositions.
