Description:
Composer and pianist Alexander Tansman was born in Poland in 1897 and began his career in France after graduating from university. Of Jewish descent, he fled to the United States in 1941 and returned to France after the war. Because of this background, Tansman's music was unknown in his native Poland for a long time, but from the 1980s until today, it is widely appreciated. The Alexander Tansman Quartet was formed in 2008 to promote chamber music by combining gems of the repertoire with works by lesser-known composers, with a particular emphasis on Tansman's works.
