This is a live recording of a monumental concert at the Saito Kinen Festival in 2006, which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Saito Kinen Orchestra, the 50th anniversary of Hideo Saito's death, and the 100th anniversary of Shostakovich's birth. The slow tempo of the finale, which begins and ends with the tremendous Achilleleand, is so slow that it seems as if it might stop, but the clear, unwavering sound of the ensemble is magnificent.
