Description:

Popper, a virtuoso cellist himself, has a virtuoso cello writing style, and at the same time, he is blessed with warm, soft, and slightly sentimental music that resonates gently with everyone's ears, which is very much in the spirit of the moderate Romanticism. The "Hungarian Rhapsody" is as good as Sarasate's "Zigoinelwaizen" and Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody" (which share some common melodies), and the high register and high-speed virtuosity of the "Spinning Song" is also astounding. The "Requiem," featuring three cellos and orchestra, is a calm and serene, but not somber, warm and gentle dirge.
