Benjamin Ries (1924-2010) is one of America's most famous composers, but this is the first sound recording of this piece. It is also noteworthy that this is a live performance of the world premiere. This is a masterpiece that expresses the frustrations and anguish of modern man. The Vienna Symphony Orchestra led by Sawallisch on their tour in the U.S. was also quite good, and the Vienna Symphony at that time sounded more like a Viennese instrument than the Vienna Philharmonic does today.
