A recording project of Moses Pergament, a unique 20th century Swedish composer, has begun. Of Lithuanian Jewish ancestry, Pergament was born in Finland, studied in Russia, and became a Swedish citizen in 1919. At a time of growing nationalistic expression and anti-Semitism, Pergament struggled with his complex identity, and his attempts to integrate Jewishness and Swedishness resulted in a backlash from the Swedish music world, which almost silenced him. However, his works are now attracting attention from the perspective of expressing diversity. This album, the first in the series, provides an overview of his style, from his early romantic works to his later works with an aggressive sound reminiscent of Bartók. Most of the pieces are small, lasting around 3 minutes, but the piano concerto at the beginning of the album is an imposing work in three rapid and slow movements that takes 27 minutes to play.
