An exhilarating album by the horn section of the Bavarian State Opera! The Bavarian State Orchestra can trace its history back to 1523. The Bavarian State Orchestra has a glorious history that includes premieres of works by Mozart and Wagner. This CD celebrates the 500th anniversary of the orchestra formed by the Munich Opera Horns in 2007 by members of the opera house's horn section. The title "Voyager" refers to a person who sets out on a journey of exploration, as if to an unseen land beyond the sea, and indicates the group's spirit to explore uncharted territory in the expression of the horn ensemble. Since Munich is close to the gateway to the Bavarian Alps, the album opens and closes with a simple piece for alphorn (alpenhorn), and features works by Munich-born composer Richard Strauss, ranging from classics using natural horns to new works that aim for new possibilities of expression.
