Tonu Kulwitz is one of the leading contemporary Estonian composers. His works are highly popular for their combination of romanticism and the delicacy characteristic of Scandinavian music. This album is the last in a trilogy of choral works by Liszt Joost, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. Following the previous two works, "Elegy of Moorland" (ODE-1306) and "You are Light and Morning" (ODE-1363), "The Sound of Wings" is, according to the composer himself, the brightest and most illuminating work in the trilogy. Amelia Earhart, to whom the work is dedicated, was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932, and in 1937 she attempted to circumnavigate the globe over the equator, but was lost over the South Pacific. In this work, the orchestra and choir play images reminiscent of the wind, and the solo viola expresses the "Lockheed Electra 10E," the red plane that disappeared with her, with up-and-down motifs and flageolettes, all celebrating "the courage to fly, to dream, to dare.Puhapaevasoov Sunday Wishes" is a beautiful love song, a choral piece written in 2020 and arranged in 2022.
