Requiem by English choral composer Ian Venables (1955-). He says, "There have been so many requiems composed, that creating a new one was a daunting challenge. But as a composer of choral music, words have always been important to me, and I felt an overwhelming desire to put this text to music." The choir, with Adrian Partington, organist Jonathan Hope, and soloists performed the work movingly at its premiere in 2018 to great acclaim, and this recording was made the following year, in 2019. The album includes the Requiem as well as four other pieces by Gurney, including Venables' own arrangement. Naxos Japan
