It is often the case in recording that the second and subsequent takes never surpass the first recording in terms of freshness, if not perfection. The same can be said of the "fate" of Furtwängler's first and third days back after the war. Until recently, the "fate" of Furtwängler's postwar return has been the third day, but nowadays, with the improvement of the sound quality of the first day performance, there are many people who prefer the first day performance. According to Furtwängler, the Titania Palast, which is nowadays said to be synonymous with poor acoustics, is far better than a certain hall in London, and considering that German recording technology at that time was at the top level of the world during the war, this recording must have been recorded with considerably good sound. The recording must have been made in very good sound quality. In our remastering, all ambient noises such as audience coughs, noises in the auditorium or on the stage, and the conductor's breath have been retained, while the wide frequency range has been preserved. The dynamic range has been set to the expected level, and the sound has been tightened to give the timpani more power, and the woodwinds emerge clearly and richly toned, especially the crescendo in the bridge between the third and fourth movements.
