This brilliant live performance set makes the most of the brilliant sound and power of the golden age of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In "Life of a Hero," Münsch plays with a dynamic performance that is truly heroic, with the conductor inspiring the orchestra and raising his voice to heighten the tension. The "Home" is a repertoire that Munsch did not leave any studio recordings, and we are lucky to have a stereo recording of it. It is a dramatic performance that shows why Strauss wrote his symphonies like scenes from an opera. The "Don Quixote" with de Pasquale, principal viola and Piatigorsky, cello of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is also excellent.
