Schrammel" is a form of Austrian folk music performance that developed in Vienna in the late 19th century. It is based on the name of the violinist brothers Johann and Josef Schrammel. They played Viennese folk songs with their own arrangements in heurige (bars serving new wine), and their music, which had a different flavor from the "Vienna Waltz" played by an orchestra in a hall, fascinated people and spread its popularity throughout Europe. The music of the Schrammels, which even Johann Strauss II and Schoenberg were enchanted by, is still performed elegantly by numerous musicians. The "Neue Wiener Konzerthauschlammeln," founded in 1995, is the most popular ensemble among them.
