Description:

The opera "Francesca da Rimini" was composed by Mercadante almost two centuries ago. This opera, featuring the daughter of a lord in the Inferno section of Dante's "Divine Comedy," depicts the tragedy of Francesca, who is murdered by the man she married after falling madly in love with an impossible woman. Many composers, including Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, were inspired by this story and wrote wonderful works about it; in 2015, Zandonai's opera of the same title was revived and released on CD, but Mercadante's work has never been premiered since it was composed in 1831.
