Kishi Bashi, a Japanese-American songwriter/producer from Seattle, has completed a new album. Kishi Bashi will release his fifth album "Kantos" on Joyful Noise Recordings. Self-produced and mixed by Tucan (Hot Chip, Jungle, Aluna), "Kantos" is the latest addition to Kishi Bashi's new album, "Music from the Song Film: Omoiyari," which was released last fall and is an extension of his documentary film "Omoiyari: A Song Film by Kishi Bashi), released last fall. The album was recorded at Chase Park Transduction with longtime collaborator engineer Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, of Montreal, Toro y Moi) and British musician Sweet Loretta. recording at Chase Park Transduction with British musician Sweet Loretta. Guest musicians include Zorina Andall (Vo), Augie Bello (Sax), and Linqua Franqa (activist/rapper).Early on in the songwriting process for Kantos, Ishibashi considered returning to his very eclectic musical roots by utilizing his jazz background and delving into the dance-rock leanings he had previously embraced as co-founder of the Brooklyn-based indie band Jupiter One. I was thinking of returning to my very eclectic musical roots. But not long after he started writing songs, he stumbled upon a website with an AI that could compose catchy song hooks based on prompts. He said, "AI is very powerful and has the potential to solve a lot of important problems. But there is also great value in human innovation, and I worry what will happen if we lose sight of that. If we don't value humanity, what do we value?" says Ishibashi. The intense and palpable energy of "Kantos" stems from its revisiting of the dance-punk acts that permeated the Jupiter One era. (1/2)
