The Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra's first recording of Schumann's complete symphonies and orchestral works is Symphonies Nos. 1 and 4 [1841 original edition], conducted by Heinz Holliger! The conductor is the world-famous oboe player Heinz Holliger. He has pioneered a new and extremely difficult oboe technique and has performed numerous main works from baroque to contemporary music. The prestigious Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra affiliated with a broadcasting company based in Cologne, Germany, and maestro Holliger will give us a sincere performance of Schumann.The Symphony in D minor (1841 original) was originally titled "Symphonic Fantasy" and was the second symphony, but due to poor reception, the brass section was revised ten years later and published as Symphony No. 4, Op. 120. It is a pleasure to hear the original version performed to a high standard in this series of excellent recordings by the audite label. King International
