David Byrne's latest album, which the whole world has been waiting for, is now available on Matador Records! David Byrne, best known as the leader of Talking Heads, has released his new album "Who Is The Sky? The album was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus). The 12 songs on the album were arranged by members of the Ghost Train Orchestra, a chamber music ensemble based in New York City. The album, the first since the 2018 Grammy-nominated "American Utopia," features a wide range of guests from old friends to new musical colleagues, including Saint Vincent, Paramore's Hayley Williams, The Smile drummer Tom Skinner, and " American Utopia" and percussionist Mauro Refosco, who also participated in "American Utopia. In 2023, as the era of "American Utopia," which began as an album tour and evolved into a critically acclaimed Broadway show and then an HBO film directed by Spike Lee, drew to a close, he began to write down bits and pieces of grooves, chords, and melodies for the first time in some time. The previous three years had been a confusing time. The three years immediately preceding this period were full of confusion, but he had also been writing down lyrical ideas and phrases in the midst of all this. When it came time to start production, I realized that it was easier to get started if I had a little stock of ideas and phrases. And I found that I had accumulated quite a bit. Little by little, very simple songs started to emerge, just me playing acoustic guitar and singing along to loops and beats," he said. With the world and the Broadway run of "American Utopia" on hold, he, like many others, has had time to ask himself, "How can I make this happen?Is what I'm doing really what I love? Why am I writing music? Why am I doing this job? What is the point of it all? Who Is The Sky?" is his answer to these profound questions, and expands on the "optimistic themes" articulated in American Utopia, its tour, and its Grammy Award-winning Broadway show and film.
