Led by Scottish virtuoso Katherine Manson, who has been the leader of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra since 2006, the Haydn series is finally complete, having built up a solid reputation for its thoroughgoing style despite several changes of members. This tenth album features Haydn's works from the middle period, compact yet rich in content (Op. 42), and the oratorio "The Last Seven Words of Christ on the Cross," which Haydn himself arranged into a string quartet version and dedicated to Count Lopkowicz.
