Live recording of the Salzburg Festival recital dedicated to Keesin's only teacher Anna Kantor, who passed away in July 2021 at the age of 98. This live recording is a chance to hear the fullness of Keesin, who turned 50 years old last year and continues to walk a solitary path with his masterly style and dense expression. Berg and Gershwin were inhabitants of superficially very different musical worlds, and though at first glance they may seem dissimilar, they were friends who agreed on several aesthetic tenets and admired each other's work. And Gershwin was acutely aware of Chopin both when composing for and playing the piano. Frennikov (who served as general secretary of the Soviet composer of the same name), like all three, also felt a disconnect between the personal and the public. However, whereas Frennikov hides his inner self in his music, the other three express themselves most in their music. As Chopin wrote to his close friend Titus Wojciechowski, "What I once told you, I now tell my piano. The album, like the recital, is dedicated to the memory of Kyshyn's teacher, Anna Pavlovna Kantor. Keyshin was only six years old when he took his first lesson from her at the Gnessin Music School in Moscow. Anna Pavlovna became more than a teacher to our family.She is my only piano teacher and everything I can express on the piano today is because of her," he recalls. Universal Music/IMS
