Albeniz and Granados in Spain Albéniz's suite "Iberia," which vividly evokes Spain, is divided into four volumes of three pieces each, and this album includes the first and second volumes.Beginning with "Evocacacion," which combines the fandango and hota song forms of southern Spain, "El Puerto (The Port)," inspired by the port town of El Puerto de Santa Maria in Cadiz, "The Eucharistic Procession of Seville," which depicts the Eucharistic procession, Volume II depicts the Andalucian towns of " Rondeña" and "Almería," and "Turiana," which recalls the gypsy neighborhoods of Seville. Considered by many to be Granados' masterpiece, "Goyescas" is a two-volume suite for piano that reflects Granados' admiration for Goya's paintings, and this work includes the first volume. A truly virtuosic collection, Peter Donohoe nimbly handles these works, which place extremely high demands on the pianist, and presents a wonderful Spanish art form with his characteristic deep musical interpretation. This recording was also made on a Steinway Model D concert grand piano from Potton Hall. (Tokyo M-Plus)
