Martin Rummel is a renowned Austrian cellist who is a highly respected disciple of the great 20th century English cellist William Preece, and is also the owner of Paladino. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1795, Josef Merk was the principal cellist at the Vienna Court Opera and a professor at the Vienna He was a cello virtuoso who served as a professor at the Conservatory of Music and was a favorite of Viennese audiences and the acerbic critic Eduard Hanslick. A close friend of Schubert, Chopin dedicated his "Introduction and Brilliant Polonaise" to him when he visited Vienna in 1829, and the "20 Exercises for Unaccompanied Cello," presumed to have been composed in the 1820s, was published in 1806 as Jean-Louis Dupaul's "21 Exercises (PMR0087), a work that should serve as a standard for the education of all cellists.Rummel also recorded Merc's "Fleurs d'Italie" for the Naxos label, and that album also received high praise.
