Description:
Martin Rummel is a renowned Austrian cellist who is a highly respected disciple of the great 20th century English cellist William Preece and the owner of Paladino. While also working as a pedagogue, he has published and recorded many etudes for cello, and has shared their musical appeal not only with cello students but also with general listeners. Although not much is known about the life of cellist Sebastian Lie (1805-1887), the two etudes heard on this recording are standard repertoire pieces in cello lessons around the world. Over the years, Lee wrote a collection of etudes of various difficulty levels, including Op.30, which had long been the standard method at the Paris Conservatory, as well as Op.31, 57, 70, 76, 92, 106, 109, 113, and 131. The Op.70 on this album is the most well-known in the repertoire of young cellists; the upper voices, which can be played completely in first position, are for students, while the lower voices are for teachers.Op.31 is a melodic, step-by-step exercise, with the technical demands rising rapidly throughout the collection.
