Beethoven's Ninth with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Switzerland's oldest orchestra founded in 1806, and its chief conductor, the up-and-coming James Gaffigan, who has captured the attention of the European musical world.This recording comes on the heels of the success of the 2017 Beethoven and Oliver Schnieder Piano Concerto Complete Performance and Recording "Beethoven Gaffigan, who has been Principal Conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra since 2011, is an accomplished conductor who studied with Zinman in Aspen and has studied in Cleveland and San Francisco as an assistant to Welser-Möst and Tilson Thomas. He has significantly enhanced the reputation of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, which has extended his contract until 2022, as well as his appointments as principal guest conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (a complete cycle of Prokofiev symphonies is in progress on Challenge Classics) and the Gürzenig Orchestra Cologne.The concept of this album is "revolution," and the first piece is "Prisoners' Chorus" from "Fidelio," composed around the same time as the founding of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.
