The relationship started a few years ago when Dave was an avid fan of Gregg's band, The Bird and the Bee, and as usual, Dave was thinking of ways to breathe new life into the band when the idea for this new album came to him. In the making of this new album, Dave was thinking about how he could breathe new life into the band, and Greg came to mind. I wanted this to be the biggest sound the Foo Fighters have ever had," Dave said.We wanted to make a huge rock album with Greg's sense of melody and arranging ability, a 'Sargent Peppers' kind of record, made by Motorhead." Engineered by Darrell Thorpe, who has worked with Beck and Radiohead, the album was recorded at the venerable East West Studios in Hollywood, where, according to Dave, "our noise and Greg's brains, sophisticated arranging and songwriting abilities were secretly combined. The result is the loudest, most beautiful work in Foo Fighters history. With each and every album, the Foo Fighters continue to update their own rock sound while remaining true to their "rock" roots, and this is something that is sure to attract even more attention.
