Description:
The little-known Viennese composer Johann Carl von Ordnitz (1734-1786) served in the district court of Low Austria (present-day Lower Austria), where his musical activities were interspersed with his work. Little is known about his early life, but he was a member of the lower class of the aristocracy and entered the Ritterakademie, a boarding school, where he studied law, then the University of Vienna, and finally the civil service. Although little is known about his musical education, various biographies and reputations suggest that he may have been trained in violin from a young age. He was also a member of the Tonkuenstler-Societaet, an association that raises funds for widows and orphans of musicians. Ordonez was also recorded as playing second violin and performing Haydn's string quartets, for which he received rave reviews for his emotion and expression. In his spare time he composed a great deal of music: operas, marionette operas, Zingspiels, church music, secular cantatas, violin concertos, 27 string quartets, and 73 symphonies.Ordonez's style is both experimental and novel with a sophisticated psychedelic unity that is very unique and original. Unfortunately, most of his scores were destroyed in a fire at the Court of Justice in Vienna in 1927, but Werner Ehrhardt and others have restored the few remaining scores. Larte del Mondo's performance succeeds in expressing the composer's outstanding qualities by infusing the piece with plenty of dynamic emotion. Sony Music
