Kaufmann, a German-born leading exponent of Italian opera, including Verdi and Puccini, grew up in Italy and was greatly inspired by the country's culture and scenery. Italy, so to speak, was Kaufman's second home that nurtured his "love of song," and it was this feeling that led him to create "DOLCE VITA" (titled "Return to Sorrentohe: Songs of Italy" in Japan), a tribute to the tradition of "Italian song" that gave birth to the beautiful melodies of this work. This Blu-ray Disc is of a solo recital in Turin in June 2016, with 12 selections from that new album. It captures Kaufman in all his glory as he sings passionately in front of a packed audience in the grand and magnificent Teatro Carignato. Kaufman said, "Italians love to sing. Italians love to sing. They are always singing, whether in the street or on their way to work. Men sing while they work because they want to express their emotions outwardly. Music does more than just make you smile.Sometimes it makes me feel like I am not the only one struggling with a problem. By expressing those feelings in a song with the right words, we feel that we can manage to do something about it. The songs included here are Italian songs that express such a wide range of human emotions. Italians, in the midst of all their sorrow, can find a little sugar sweetness in it."
